Connersville boasts the longest scenic railway in Indiana.  Visitors travel on the Whitewater Valley Railroad while enjoying the beautiful Whitewater Valley from Connersville to Metamora.  Arriving in Metamora, visitors will find authentic historic canal town complete with shopping, eating and sightseeing.  Visit their website at www.whitewatervalleyrr.org for a complete listing of excursions including the “Polar Express”, “Dinosaur Train” and “A Day Out with Thomas”.

>Recreational opportunities abound for families who want to enjoy the great outdoors.  Visitors can take full advantage of the city parks, Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary, Schrader Weaver Nature Preserve, camping, canoeing and kayaking on the Whitewater River or  golfing at Willowbrook Country Club.  The Willowbrook Country Club is open to the public and features an 18-hole golf course, driving range and a clubhouse featuring dining and banquet facilities.  The hilly tree-lined course is 72-par for both men and women, with narrow fairways and greens sized to inhibit a bad golf shot.  The Club also offers special occasion rental rooms and a full-service bar.
Roberts Park is located on the city’s north end and it features the historic Longwood covered bridge, a new aquatic center, playground equipment, new basketball courts and pickleball courts. The park also has an open-air pavilion, an amphitheatre, the John H. Miller Community Center, the newly renovated James Roberts building, and several other shelters available to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Located on the south side of Connersville is the John Conner Nature Preserve Trail Park, which is a 20-plus acre primitive wooded park.  It has a four-acre pond, known as Smalley’s Lake, which is great for fishing or relaxing.  No swimming or motor boats are allowed in the lake.  Also located in the park is a mile-long primitive trail that wraps throughout the park.  Parts of the trail overlook the scenic Whitewater River, open green areas and wooded areas.

Also be sure to take advantage of our newest tourism attraction, the Heritage Barn Quilt Trail, which will acquaint people with Fayette County, its history and beauty.  And if history is your interest,  be sure to visit the Fayette County Historic Museum, the Canal House and the Elmhurst, which has been named the “Whitehouse of Indiana”.
If you plan to visit, work in, or move to Fayette County, you’ll experience a wonderful community that has rich history, unique tourism attractions, a great proximity to major metropolitan areas, and most importantly, the people who work to make our community what it is. Priceless.
